Help! Re: Albino Clawed Frog!Help! Re: Albino Clawed Frog! (modified 0 times) Bloated
PLEASE HELP!! I'm an amatour frog owner and need some help with my African Albino Clawed Frog. He's takin' on water!!! *L* But seriously, he has a big problem. He is very very very bloated and it looks like there is fluid under his skin. He looks like he's drowing in his own skin. I'm doing water changes every day since this started and its not helping. The business I purchased the frog from says in his 30 years, he's never seen this before. My boss who's a small animal vet is stumped (she only treats cats and dogs) and I can't find any literature to help. He stopped eating 2 days ago and has since shed a layer of skin, I figure because he's so badly stretched out. I have him quarantined from the rest of the tank...but he's not getting better. In desperation, I tried a suggestion of short salt water baths for 5 minute intervals...no luck. Please help ASAP.

Hi,

I do not know what to suggest except that I would think salt water would be harmful. I would use fresh water either bottled or filtered in some way. Also it may be a she and not a he, does it live with any other frogs of his species or come into recent contact with its own species, f so it may be ready to deliver some tadpoles? not ssure though just a hunch.

I have been reading about this condition and unfortunately it does not look good for your frog. It is apparently an infection under the skin and frogs that develop these symptoms generally do not last very long. I would recomend getting it to a vet ASAP maybe there is something they can do for it that i have not read. Sorry.

I have had a frog with this condition for 3yrs. She still eats very well and seems very happy. A vet advised us to do nothing as an anestethic would probaly kill her
