Hi, all.
This is my first post to your forum.
I have found an injured common green frog. I am certain he (I have no idea what gender it is) was hit by one or more cars, as I found him in the middle of a very busy road.
I know right front leg is broken just above the wrist, and he has a cut on his face, around the eye. The bleeding from that cut has stopped, and I don't want to disturb the clot by poking around. The foreleg has a large open gash, but is no longer bleeding freely. He is holding it folded under his belly, rather than splayed out like his uninjured 'hand'. He doesn't seem to have any other injuries (though there may be internal ones).
I have put him into a clean plastic aquarium with an inch of clean, room-temperature distilled water and a well-washed rock, and placed the aquarium under a lamp.
He was very active when I was carrying him off the road, but settled down when he was in my hand. He hasn't moved much in his aqaqarium.
I have put a few small bits of cooked chicken and ground beef and three garden slugs in for him to eat if he's hungry, but he hasn't eaten yet.
He has been in my home about 3 hours now.
What can I do for him? How do I help him? I have never had a pet frog before, and I know very little about them. Will a vet agree to see a frog or know how to help one? How can I minimize his shock and pain? The earliest I can get him to a vet is noon tomorrow. I feel so bad for him.
Help!
